Welland pre-school, based at Welland Primary School, has been running for over 30 years. The pre-school was set up to meet the demand for quality, affordable, pre-school education for children living in Welland and the surrounding areas.
The pre-school is open from 8.30am to 11.30am, Monday to Friday, during term time. We take children from the term in which they become 3 (2 years 9 months+) up to the age of 5 and we can accommodate up to 16 children per session.
We see the pre-school as a ‘stepping stone’ to school and we aim to give children in our care the knowledge and confidence they need to enter Primary school, all in a friendly, fun and safe environment. The pre-school has close links with the Primary School and works with them to ensure that the children learn appropriate social and developmental skills in order to make the transition from pre- to primary school as easy as possible.
Our qualified staff strive to create a relaxed atmosphere for the children, whilst preparing them for life in school. We have a wide range of toys, educational resources and equipment which the children can use. We also take the children on field trips and nature walks to allow them to learn about the world around them.
The pre-school is run by a committee of volunteers, mainly parents/carers of children currently attending pre-school, and one of our main functions is to organise and run fundraising events. Income generated through these events is incredibly important to the pre-school as it supplements our Nursery Education Grant and allows us to buy craft materials, books, games, toys and equipment. We are always looking for help with fundraising - whether in the form of a donation or by attending one of our events, having fun and helping a good cause at the same time.
The pre-school is currently housed within Welland Primary School but is trying to raise the money needed to open a purpose-built pre-school for the village. We have already received planning permission to extend Welland Village Hall, next door to the school, and are now actively seeking grants and donations to enable us to fulfil our plans.
