Please help us to build a new pre-school
Welland pre-school was opened over 30 years ago to provide a quality, affordable service to children aged between 2 years 9 months and 5 years of age. We are open Monday to Friday, from 9am to 11.30am, during school term times and are based in a room within Welland Primary School. The pre-school is run by a committee of volunteers, all of whom have children at the pre-school. We are an independent charity and we rely on fundraising to supplement our Nursery Education Grant.
The pre-school has always been popular and we have now outgrown our current premises. The committee have embarked on a major project—to build a new pre-school for the village. In order to achieve our goal, we need to raise over £200,000. We have already secured planning permission to build the new pre-school next to the village hall and now need to raise the cash to build it. Our ongoing program of fundraising events have so far made us £15,000. We are also applying for grants from various organizations, but to reach our target—we need your help!
How you can help
We are launching a Buy-a-Brick campaign to raise money. We are asking everyone who lives in the area or uses our local facilities to consider donating just £1 for a ‘brick’. In exchange for your kind donation, your name (if desired) will be entered into a special thank you book. You can, of course, ‘buy’ as many bricks as you would like—the more money we raise, the sooner the children of Welland can have a new pre-school and a place to call their own.

Welland Pre-School opened over 30 years ago and provides quality, affordable pre-school education to children between 2 years 9 months and 5 years of age. We see ourselves as a ‘stepping stone’ to school and provide an invaluable service to children in Welland and the surrounding areas. The pre-school is run by a committee of volunteers, all of whom are parents of pre-school children, and we work extremely hard to fund equipment and resources which are not provided for through our Nursery Education Grant. We are an independent, not-for-profit, charitable organisation and are not part of any Education Authority.
We currently occupy one small room within Welland Primary School but, as demand for places grows, we are finding it more and more difficult to accommodate the children. We have, therefore, embarked upon a mammoth project – to build a new pre-school for the village. We have already secured planning permission to extend the village hall and estimate the cost of building the pre-school to be £200,000.
Our own fundraising efforts have already made £30,000 and we plan to hold further events in the future. In addition, we are applying for grants to help fund the project and hope to be awarded another £30-£50,000. Unfortunately, as this is a specialised project – aimed at children, we are not eligible for capital grants. We have been rejected on the grounds that we do not serve enough of the community, that the area we live in is not deprived enough and we do not serve a wide enough range of ethnicities.- all reasons beyond our control.
Obviously, our own efforts go some way towards financing our project but we still have a long way to go and this is where you can help. We would ask that you consider making a donation towards our project. We have split donations into different categories, as follows:-

In exchange for your kind donation, your company details will be published in our special ‘Thank You’ book. For ‘Gold’ donations, we will display your company details on a plaque which will form part of the new building.
